Below is a link to an interview I just did for an online Tattoo zine from Ireland(?), which I believe will be in the next issue of the printed version of their zine. I love doing tattoos and feel very privileged that it's what i do for a living. That being said, I usually try to distance myself from the tattoo community because I find it to be very "clicky", full of name droppers, unoriginality and pretty much like any other "scene" it festers with scenesters. Scenesters in my eyes, act/think/dress according to the parameters of the "scene" they want to fit into. This is fine for some folks (mostly young ones) but doesn't interest me. I have plenty of good friends who are tattooers, but like I said, I prefer to stay away from the community.
At first I had reservations about contributing to the site, but I realized it was a chance for me to say a few things about tattooing that I haven't heard others say before. Things that to me appear to very much out in the open, but that tattooers seem to pretend don't exist.
Anyway, check out the interview HERE, and check out the one they did with my co worker Mike HERE.

It's true, I do. Well his movies at least. Fortunately for me the brilliant minds at SOMETHING WEIRD VIDEO have made a documentary about him. To check out the trailer go HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page. I'm so glad it's them that made it, they seem to truly understand HG's movies and I'm confident they know how this documentary should be done. While you're over there buy some shit from them, they definitely deserve your money.
In other HG news, I'm almost ready to release the officially licensed, extremely limited HG Lewis shirt package, just need to get the barf bags finished. In the meantime here's a sneak peek at the shirt design, painstakingly rendered with pen and ink by yours drooley. Click on the photo for a bigger version.

Apparently this was supposed to be a show for American TV that never made it past the pilot stage. The cast is mind blowing-Sammy Davis JR, Jack Klugman, Adam West and Christopher Lee as Lucifer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone out there has a copy of this please message me!

Also, here's a few awesome old car commercials I found while scouring the dregs of youtube...

This ones pretty bad quality but it's still awesome-

And finally...If you think you like Lovecraft, think again...

Redemption Tattoo has been an elite, forward-thinking establishment since the doors opened in the spring 2002. More than eight years later, Redemption still reigns supreme in the Boston area for custom tattooing and continues to up the ante for tattooing around the world.

The Boston Phoenix recently named Redemption as the “Best Tattoo Parlor” in Boston, beating out five other local tattoo shops. Redemption co-owner Mike Shea said, “We couldn’t be more excited about being hailed as the Best Tattoo Parlor in Boston by the Phoenix. This is our fourth year in a row receiving a “Best Of” laurel and we feel honored to be named as such. We couldn’t have done this without our amazing team of artists and clients, so for that we are thankful.”

Also named CityVoter’s Top of the Heights winner 2009, Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston 2008, and WBZTV A-List Winner 2007, Redemption Tattoo’s latest accolade comes at an time as the shop enters its eighth and most successful year in business. There are more artists working at the shop than ever before, including world-renowned tattoo artists and shop co-owners Mike Shea and Erick Lynch, tattooers Josh McAlear and Ben McClellan, apprentice Salty Dave and shop manager Jeff Allen, and the volume and quality of art coming out of the shop is at a peak.

Shea said, “At Redemption, artists run the shop and we pride ourselves on the art form. I think the reason things are going so well for us is because we produce high quality work every day and we only hire great tattooers. There’s no attitude when you come into our shop — we just want to do the best tattoos for our customers, plain and simple.”

Located in the heart of Porter Square on Mass. Ave., Redemption Tattoo is consistently providing high quality work by rendering excellent service and artistry in a classy and comfortable atmosphere. I've been sitting on the final of this image for a while just to be sure that the band made it public when they wanted. Here's the cover I did for the upcoming album by TRUPPENSTURM which should be absolutely crushing. I really can't wait to hear this album, this band is great and it was an honor to work with them.

Here's a sneak peek at one of the new songs.
Here's the final logo for the relatively new Finnish band FORCED KILL.

Check them out HERE
Also just finished this shirt design for IN SOLITUDE from Sweden

And finally, I'm very proud to announce that I'm working on a shirt design for the mighty INCANTATION. I'll be done with the final soon, but here's a crappy photo of the final sketch.

More soon.

Tattooed Dino, my favorite product of Viet Nam early yesterday morning...

He said this hurt so bad he was going to have nightmares about it.

Also, just realized my good friend Erin AKA "Curls by God" sent me this pic of me shaving her. Hello Erin if you're out there!

While looking for something else on the old laptop, I came across this picture of me painting last years NWN Fest poster, which is kinda funny because I just started this years fest poster last week. It's cool how my knuckles say "fat" on them in this picture. I'll put up pic's of the new fest poster when I can. Enough pictures of me! Here's some of this!!!!!

Forward to victory,
Thanks to Salty for the link.

These just came out, like today I think. I did the bat logo on the front way back in like 2008 or something, anyways, go buy a copy, NUNSLAUGHTER rules. They have shirts with the logo I did also available at HELLS HEADBANGERS. Here's a review of it stolen right off the HHR site...

The Masters of Devil Metal Death with their latest EP for February 2010 simply dubbed "Black" in reference to the visual aesthetic of the peculiar packaging. Features four brand new studio blasphemies that you won't find on any of their other 100+ releases: Fuck The Bastard, Before You Cast A Spell, Yet The Odor Still Lingers, Grave, Grave.
*CD version: -BLACK disc with black ink printed on a black booklet

*7" Vinyl version: -First 100 hand-numbered copies on CLEAR Vinyl with bible page jacket & embroidered patch of the cover logo (bible pages ripped & mounted by Don of the Dead). All other copies on Black Vinyl with black hard-board jacket & insert printed with black ink.

VICTORY! Finally got to print these off!

There's been a lot of obstacles, but now everything is running smoothly. I printed these myself (yes that's my kitchen in the photo) and made about 16. They will be for sale when Y-PESTIS.COM is up and running, which will be very soon I promise! If these sell I'll re print some more, also, next up is a print of a design I did for one of my all time favorite bands, the HOOKERS! I have the screen all ready to go, it's just a matter of time. That one will look like this...

Since I'm printing these myself I'll be able to keep the price pretty low, not sure of the exact total yet, but like I said, it won't be anything crazy. A huge thanks to Hemlock Ink in Somerville for helping me out with the screens, those guys are great and really professional. Check them out HERE.

Also, just got a copy of the GREAT new split from NOCTURNAL GRAVES and HELLSPIRIT!

Been listening to it nonstop since it came in the mail the other day, can't wait to hear more new NOCTURNAL GRAVES material, which apparently will be happening soon. Buy NOCTURNAL GRAVES shit HERE.

When I got home the other night it looked like this.

Anyways, up next for illustration stuff for me is a bunch of stuff for NUCLEAR WAR NOW! including the NWN Fest 2 poster, and I'll be trying to finish up an image for IN SOLITUDE.
Currently listening to

More shit soon...

Haven't posted in about a week or so, here's what's been happening...
I went to my good friend Coco Roy's art opening in Jamaica Plain.

She's the man, only like the woman version, check her shit out at- .
The bathroom at this place blew my mind, I think there was a mummified cat behind the toilet.

Monday- Had breakfast (see below) with my buddy Chad Chesko ( who is currently tattooing me from my collar bones to my hips, which feels more like, what I like to call, a "living autopsy" than an actual tattoo.

...and got a copy of SHE BEAST on VHS (clamshell, Gorgon Video).

Lastly, here's a bunch of sketches that I've been working on...
1. Preliminary logo sketch for FORCED KILL from Finland. Seem like great guys, this is the first sketch I sent them, I'll be making a bunch of changes. Check them out at-

2.IN SOLITUDE (Sweden), Shirt design. Love this band. Also a quick sketch, which will be changed allot before the final...

3. Here's the sketch for the next full length from the German band TRUPPENSTURM. I was lucky enough to get some previews of the new songs, and from the sound of it, this album will be a total ripper. It will be out soon on Van Records. Both TRUPPENSTURM and Van Records have been really great to work with, please support them. ,

4. Lastly, here's the sketch for the shirt I'm doing for the legendary, highly influential SACRILEGE from England. Pretty into this image, it's the second version I sent Tony from SAC, I liked the first, but I like this one allot more. The bottom of the image will read, "Time To Face The Reaper". Tony is the original Bass player for SACRILEGE, and also was in The VARUKERS, great guy.

That's it, more soon.

Did this one the other day, just got all the black in, colors next.

Saw this thing at a thrift store type place, what caught my eye more that anything was the "FTW 666" patch. Either FTW, or 666 alone are a doosey, but together, that's somethin else. I would have bought the whole vest for that one patch, but it was $65. Maybe they peeled it off some dead biker or something. Plus check out that crazy dragon.

Last but not least, heres the 1" pin set that will come with the HG LEWIS package I'll be putting out soon through YERSINIA PESTIS. L to R, Montag the Wizard of Gore, Faud Ramsess, Blood Feast logo, She Devil on Wheels (Black magic book not included).

Not really a fan of Vice magazine, but I dug up this oldie from their website, about the shirt I drew for MIDNIGHT. Some parts are funny.

Sometimes art and poetry can align in magical, unanticipated ways. Occasionally, the triumphs of human expression can surpass your wildest fantasies and touch on every sensory nerve ending in total bliss. When this genius phenomenon stimulates all the prime faculties at once, its basically like a giant pentagram illuminated by purple fire on your freaking face. Its like three corners of the hot pink neon triangle of sight, sound, and touch have been galvanized with lasers and the head and heart just violently explode from the forces of beautiful truth. This beautiful truth is the perfect synthesis of piquant imagery and verse’s supreme mastership. Usually, this matrimony of imagery and word is crypted in galleries for folks to admire from safe distances. But, this time, you can say fuck off to that gallery shit and roll like an advanced professor of the poetic arts with this masterwork on your tits. Behold! It is NOW Midnight!

First of all, this font is flawless! It’s human. I can feel that fist gripped around the blackest sharpie digging out the best slash to make that G! Not to mention the awesome as fuck letter D and the slightly upside down crossed T. This is simple, direct and perfect craftsmanship of lettering. Bathroom wall style. Perfect!

Second, we have a super sexy demon-witch-temptress with dragon wings punctuated with talons, huge boobs, agape skeleton face in a summoning, half-curtsy gesticulation stance from inside a scaldy, steaming cauldron atop a red reversed pentagram! Awesome, fierce, and feminist! I am so happy she has pubic hair. I'm going to assume the artist is male because of the boob rendering being slightly on the fantastic size, but the shading for pubic hair tells me he has been to that nice place before. Plus, her hips, waist, and flowy hair are all sexy too. She also sorta has wispy bangs like Mischa Barton. Cute.

So, after all that kickin’ bunz art and delinquent font—which are inspirational and harmonious in every way imaginable—plus a little erotic wicked shit, we have the word “midnight.” It is always scary, even when uttered by the tiniest child or oldest of old ladies, and completely melds sex and evil into one abstract generalization for being up to no good. You know that is what we want here! It just gets better. This beautiful masterpiece now also becomes poetry when you exit the room and flash the back of this t-shirt. This is the most perfectly sweet precise refrain for an extra awesome fun-ass, awesome as fuck good time. How could anyone even possibly argue that if you can’t stop the vomit you are absolutely having the best friggin’ time of your garsh derned life? Way better than can’t stop the blood. Totally better than can’t stop the poopy. Remarkably smarter than can’t stop the pus. Profoundly surpasses can’t stop the drool. Although wait, drooling is totally fun.

Here's another oldie from the crypt. My friend at interviewed me a while ago, here's what happened...

Ten Questions With…Josh McAlear

Boston-area tattoo artist and illustrator Josh McAlear eats Boston-area tattoo artists and illustrators and shits burritos. McAlear is a super talented dude and has tattooed the shit out of both Will Smith and Oh Mars. He works out of Redemption Tattoo in Cambridge, MA and has designed for Toxic Holocaust, Motherboar, and Nunslaughter. Josh was cool enough to take some time away from drawing goats to have a round of Ten Questions with RBM. We thank you Josh.

What was the last book you read?

Reign in Blood (33 1/3)
by D. X. Ferris

Why should we hire you?

I tattooed Will Smith (just for the record, I’m not saying I actually tattooed Will Smith).

What is your Bizarro World name?

According to the rules, wouldn’t it just be “Bizarro Josh”? But if I could pick, “Lörd öv the Wretched Earth’s Wörthless Inhabitants”, or “Phinneas” would be cool.

If you could have sex with anyone in history, who would you bone down with (unprotected)?

The inventor of the Ugg Boot. You mean bone down with chainsaws made of fire and napalm, right?

What cartoon villain do you relate with the most?

I see that Fish guy took Skeletor already, so, my second would probably be Nanny from Muppet Babies.

What is your “Making Love” album?

Thor, “Keep The Dogs Away“, or, Muppet Babies, “Opening Theme“.

What is your favorite curse word?

My soon to be wife said, “doody booty” once, that was good. The one word version would be “doodybooty”.

It’s cool that they let you play your favorite Disney soundtrack at work. What is that again?

Oh, you mean “The Emperor’s New Groove?”

Congratulations! Ben & Jerry’s have decided to name an ice cream after you. What’s it called?

“Scottish/Armenian Fro Yo Peace Oph Shite”.

Finally, a round of Fuck, Marry, Kill…which one of these characters would you fuck, which would you marry, and which would you kill: R2-D2, The Iron Giant, Data.

Grow up man.

Marry-The Iron Giant

In other news, did this yesterday. Don't ask.

Doing this on this guy Brian's chest today. Super good guy, and he loves Judas Priest.

And last but not least, home sweet home...
